Social Science Notes for CBSE Class 10

In a federalist system of government, the federal government and each state have equal amounts of power. India works like this because it is a federalist country:

The Constitution of India is very clear about what the federal government and state governments can and can’t do. The military, the foreign policy, the currency, and the media are all run by the central government. Agriculture, health care, education, and keeping the peace are all things that the state governments are in charge of.

The Lok Sabha is the lower house of India’s two-chamber legislature. The Rajya Sabha is the upper house (the upper house). In the Lok Sabha, the people are represented, and in the Rajya Sabha, the states are. This system is set up so that both the federal and state levels of government have the same amount of power.

In India, the executive and the legislature are different from the judiciary, and the Supreme Court is at the top of this system. The Supreme Court of India has the power to explain how the Constitution should be interpreted and to help settle disagreements between the Union of India and the states.

The Indian Constitution also says how taxes and other income are split between the federal government and each state. The federal government is in charge of collecting taxes and sending a portion of those funds to the different state governments so that they can do their own jobs.

Both the federal government and the legislatures of each state can change the Constitution of India. To make sure that state governments have a say in the process, however, a certain number of state legislatures need to agree to certain changes.

In conclusion, India is a federalist country because it has a separation of powers, a two-chamber legislature, an independent judiciary, a fair distribution of taxes, and constitutional changes. This structure makes sure that everyone’s ideas are taken into account when making national policies and that the federal government and the state governments work together.
